Vanilla

Source=Beans from the vanilla orchid, Vanilla planifolia
Flavor=Sweet, highly aromatic
Best used=Remove seeds from whole, dried beans; or, in extract
Cooking use=With coffee, in desserts including ice cream, puddings and cakes

Because of it's pleasant taste and high alcohol content, this has been used for generations as a teething soother, with mothers rubbing vanilla onot the gums of their infants, but South American Natives have also chewed vanilla beans for relief also. No actual anesthetic properties have been able to be found other than the alcohol content.
